RECORD CONDITION:

This album has the glossy sheen and pristine feel of a brand new album. The way it removes from the paper inner, like the two haven't been separated for thirty years, is certainly the sensation you get when opening brand new vinyl. It has to grade as a brilliant MINT-

A close visual inspection reveals nothing other than one or two very faint paper scuffs, totally in keeping with the appearance of new vinyl, and the actual label too looks clean and new. The spindle wear is actually very revealing, for you can see quite clearly here that this album has been played only once. For anyone wishing to nitpick, yes I am playgrading it now so make that played twice!

The audio clarity is absolutely sensational, from the totally silent run-in grooves through these wonderful tracks, and between them, the sound his total high-definition and absolutely crystal clear. There are absolutely no blemishes in this vinyl, I have nothing but a couple of the faintest pops to report during the playing of the whole album (and don't forget a couple of faint pops will always occur on brand new vinyl as well). Turn this one up and there it is, sheer audio perfection!

The music of H.P.Lovecraft is a satisfying blend of UK and US psych/pop influences, performed in an imaginative way that typifies the spirit of musical adventure which prevailed during this period. The vocal harmonies are strong as is the choice of material, particularly in drawing attention to two grossly underchampioned songwriters; Fred Neil and Randy Newman. This particular 1972 set combines the best of the bands work from their '67/'68 recording period.

COVER CONDITION: MINT-

This is a fully laminated cover that, for something that's thirty years of age, defines the term pristine. Like the vinyl, it also grades as a spectacular MINT-!!! There are no marks or creases, the edges are smooth, the spine is firm with clearly legible text, the side opening is straight and true and there is no faded colour, the whole cover is as clean as it were on the day of purchase. The only thing that stops this from being Mint, and this applies to the record as well, is the simple fact that it is not new; it is thirty years old and has come out of a private collection. That said, records and covers are very rarely this well cared for over such a long period of time. I'm having one last look for a sign of use, it's tough but I'll say there's a couple of light laminate creases, it takes a while to find them though! If only more vintage albums and covers turned up like this...

Our gradings are based on Record Collector magazines ‘Rare Record Price Guide’ system (Mint/Excellent/Very Good/Good/Fair) and we always steer on the side of caution with these (for example if we have any element of doubt about grading a record EX we will always go VG to ensure the eventual buyer has a pleasant surprise!)
