Up for sale is a rare and beautiful, original 1970 US First Pressing White Label Promotional copy of Thunderclap Newman's brilliant debut album, Hollywood Dream (Track Records/Atlantic, SD 8264). This rare promotional release is in Excellent (EX) condition across both the vinyl and the original gatefold jacket, making it a beautiful and complete archive-quality piece for any vinyl enthusiasts.
Released in 1970, Hollywood Dream is a fascinating artifact of British rock history. The band itself was an eccentric, mismatched trio assembled by Pete Townshend of The Who to showcase the talents of his friend, chauffeur, and prolific songwriter John "Speedy" Keen. Townshend rounded out the lineup with a brilliant 15-year-old guitar prodigy named Jimmy McCulloch (who would later gain fame as a member of Paul McCartney’s Wings) and an eccentric, Dixieland-style jazz pianist named Andy "Thunderclap" Newman.
Townshend was deeply involved in every single phase of this album's creation. He acted as the primary producer, arranger, and musical director. To protect the project from outside corporate interference, Townshend recorded the sessions at his own home studio in Twickenham as well as IBC Studios in London. Under the playful pseudonym "Bijou Drains," Townshend actually played all of the bass guitar parts throughout the entire record, using a distinctive, driving style that mirrors his work with The Who.
The album is anchored by the band's massive, era-defining #1 UK hit "Something in the Air," an ethereal, revolutionary anthem driven by Keen’s falsetto vocal delivery, Townshend's bassline, and Andy Newman's roaring ragtime piano break. Beyond the hit single, the album oscillates between psychedelic pop-rock, beautiful acoustic ballads, and quirky instrumental ragtime tracks like "The Reason" and "Wild Country," displaying a wonderful musical variety that couldn't have existed without Townshend’s vision.
Matrix Numbers & Pressing Details This record features the exact dead wax runout identifiers from early, unworn metal parts:

Mastered by George Piros (GB / GP): The cursive initials in the dead wax confirm this record was hand-cut by George Piros, one of Atlantic Records' finest mastering engineers. Piros was famous for squeezing maximum volume, transient response, and headroom onto a lacquer without causing inner-groove distortion. AT & BB Plating: The AT engraving shows the lacquer master was cut in-house at Atlantic Studios in New York City, utilizing high-quality metal stampers processed by Longwear Plating before being flown out to the Monarch facility.
Vinyl Condition The vinyl is graded a conservative Excellent (EX). It retains a gorgeous, glassy factory luster with only a few faint, superficial paper wisps visible under direct, bright light. It plays beautifully with warm clear, dynamic separation, deep low-end punch, and sounds just fantastic when listening to.
Jacket & Label Condition Details Front Cover/ Gatefold Details: The original gatefold jacket is in Excellent (EX) condition. It displays a sharp, rectangular "Promotional Copy - Not For Sale" sticker perfectly preserved on the lower-left corner. Additionally, the original circular "Including Something In The Air" hype sticker remains completely intact on the upper-left corner. The jacket retains vibrant black-and-white print clarity, clean edges, and a fully legible spine. There are no seam splits, writing, or heavy ring wear. The interior gatefold artwork looks immaculate. Also includes the original Lyrics sheet in pristine condition.
