Description

This is an extremely rare recording. When it first came out the reviewer of the magazine "Disques" thought it was too romatic and not enough in the "spirit" of Franck. This negative review may explain its rarity. Actually, I think it is a most beautiful performance,  and the Prelude and the Choral are very inspired. Rubinstein and Richter are better in the fugue. The cover is in relatively good condition though there are tears on three sides. The record looks good visually, and I could only detect one short superficial scratch on one side that does not affect the sound greatly. However, on both sides there is  background noise, crackling, and  clics and pops. But the sound is full and the performances can be enjoyed.  I can very well conceive that early Ducretet records could not compare with DGG in terms of silent surfaces, and the record may sound better with a mono stylus.
