RARE ETHIOPIAN JAZZ & MALE VOCAL 7” VINYL SINGLE

B SIDE: MULATU ASTATKE , EMNETE, JAZZ INSTRUMENTAL
TILAHUN GESSESSE was the most respected Ethiopian jazz and pop artist and he passed away in 2009 - there was a huge memorial service in Ethiopia which drew massive crowds.
MULATU ASTATKE is now 78 years old and is considered as the father of Ethiopian-jazz.
Original 1970 7” vinyl made in East Africa issued by Philips. The A side is sung in Amharic, the language most widely spoken in Ethiopia. Both are very famous artists that released records during the Golden Years of vinyl in Ethiopia. Many artists were showcased on Ethiopian television on the variety show. This single was released in 1970, four years before Emperor HAILIE SELASSIE (Ras Tafari Makonnen) was overthrown by the Derg in 1974. The crackdown on music releases began after he was deposed. Further information about Ethiopian jazz, folk and ballads is available on the internet and discogs site. This is quite rarely available and is an original 7” vinyl single from 1970.
A SIDE: The vinyl plays all the way through without jumping or sticking.
B SIDE: The vinyl sticks about two thirds into the track. Both sides have a lot of scratches which you can see when you hold it up to the light. I’ve given it a grading of FAIR as it has been played a lot and there is a lot of crackling. The vocal is still very strongly audible. The labels are good with no handwriting or stickers, just a slight loss on the b side label. It comes in a plain white new sleeve as the original sleeve is long gone. I do have some other Ethiopian vinyls to list or listed already on the Amha and Phillips labels to list of similar quality and less so. This vinyl has a value of between £25 to £500.00 according to sales on discogs website. That obviously depends on the condition, scarcity and availability. Please note the condition of this 52 year old record before you bid.
