Description
This is an exquisite LP. It's a US stereo pressing entitled 'Goodbye and Hello' by the great Tim Buckley. It was released in 1967 and is his second album. The catalogue number is EKS-7318 and the record is pressed on the American Elektra label. As far as I know, this is a first pressing. The songs are wonderful and the music which has a folky, psychedelic feel to it is brilliant. There are some marvellous musicians (see below) and rising above all this is Tim Buckley's unique voice. This album is a must for all fans of quality folk/psych music. Adding to the collectability of this LP is the fact that it has been signed on the inner left portion of the sleeve by the legendary British disc jockey, John Peel.
OUTER SLEEVE - The gatefold sleeve is in generally fine condition with some wear and creasing. It is typical of the early to late 1960's heavy card sleeves produced in the US and features an inner portion which is pasted on to the card-based sleeve. The top and bottom edges show some wear and the spine is in fine condition also with some wear. The wording along the spine is 95% readable.The inner portion of the gatefold sleeve is in great condition with almost no wear or marks although there are a couple of tears along the inner spine which have been repaired and are still visible. It states on the inner left portion of the sleeve - 'Recording Director - Jerry Yester - Production Supervisor - Jac Holzman - Mixing - Bruce Botnik - Recorded in Los angeles June, 1967 - Cover Photo - Guy Webster- Cover Design - William S. Harvey - Liner Photo - David Gahr'. The message from John Peel reads (in blue ball pen) - 'For Pete and Mel, whom I love, John Peel - or should it be who I love? anyway...' This is an authentic autograph although I have no written confirmation or proof of the provenance of this autograph. I can only put my reputation as a record and memorabilia dealer on the line when confirming that the autograph is genuine because the LP was given to me many tears ago by the 'Pete' in question. I've graded the sleeve VG+.
INNER SLEEVE - This is a plain white paper type.
RECORD - This is in fine condition except that it is very slightly warped at the beginning of both sides. This results in some 'wobble' on the first few revolutions of the tracks on side one and two respectively but both of these play through well and are virtually inaudible when the music starts. There are some surface marks on both sides which result in minor surface noise, especially in quiet passages and between tracks. There are occasional pops and clicks but there are definitely no jumps or skips on either side. The labels which are the original mustard coloured Elektra type with the white 'E' logo and with black wording are in fine condition. There are some spindle marks on both labels, the record has been well played. I believe that this is a first pressing of this album. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are - side one - EKS - 7318A (SON) MII - side two - EKS - 7318B (SON). I have graded the record as VG (because of the slight warp) and believe that this is very fair.
