" TOD DOCKSTADER " (1966) 'DRONE' - 'TWO FRAGMENTS FROM APOCALYPSE'- 'WATER MUSIC' Tod Dockstader (1932, St.Paul, Minnesota, USA) studied psychology and art at the University of Minnesota, before studying painting and film, earning money by drawing cartoons for various newspapers. As he moved to Hollywood In 1955 to work as an apprentice film editor, he became cutting picture and sound for animated cartoons.
His compositional adventures began in 1958 after becoming a self-taught sound sound effects engineer while working as a recording engineer at Gotham Recording Studios where he started to experiment with musique concrète during long off-work hours. In his liner notes for this album, Tod Dockstader writes: "I think the term ORGANIZED SOUND was first used by Edgard Varese to describe his tape work - pieces like Deserts and Poeme Electronique - work usually referred to as Electronic Music. I've used this term for my work since 1960 because it is a precise description of the source method, and aim of these pieces, and because, unlike Electronic Music and the French Musique Concrete, it does not involve the use of the word Music." Mr. Dockstader's notes cover the back of the jacket and continue in his explanation of his music as Organized Sound. This 1966 Album is on OWL Records, out of Boulder, Colorado ( ORLP 7 / STEREO ) and is in LIKE NEW condition.
