Tomás Rodríguez Moreno (born in Arjona, Colombia, August 12, 1922) was a fundamental vocal figure in the "Golden Age" of Colombian Caribbean music. His vocal timbre and his unmistakable "agitaciones" (vocal expressions) became the hallmark of the Pacho Galán Orchestra.

🌟 Key Role Summary His voice was the sonic signature of the Pacho Galán Orchestra during its most productive period (1955–1962). His voice is often confused with that of another great interpreter, Crescencio Camacho, causing confusion among collectors and music lovers. He created the famous "agitaciones" that became the signature of instrumental pieces, like the iconic phrase in the porro "Atlántico". Along with his brothers, he was part of the Orquesta Nuevo Horizonte and the Orquesta de Lucho Rodríguez. His repertoire spanned a wide range of Caribbean rhythms: Porros, Cumbias, Gaitas, and Guarachas. In addition to his work with Pacho Galán, he recorded his own material for the CURRO label of Cartagena.

⏳ Chronological Musical Period

1. Nuevo Horizonte Orchestra and CURRO Label (1923 – 1955)

• Family Start: Founded by his father in Arjona (1923/1924) as Nuevo Horizonte.

• Relocations: The orchestra moved to Cartagena (1934) and then to Barranquilla (~1940), where Tomasito formally joined.

• Cartagena Recordings: He recorded his own porros, cumbias, gaitas, and guarachas for the CURRO label of Cartagena, demonstrating his versatility beyond the Merecumbé genre.

• Lucho Rodríguez Orchestra: After his father's retirement in 1950, the group was renamed the Orquesta de Lucho Rodríguez.

2. The Golden Age with Pacho Galán (1955 – 1962)

• Merecumbé and Success: In November 1955, he joined Pacho Galán. His brothers, Pompilio and Efraín, created the defining drum beat for the Merecumbé.

• Lead Voice: Tomasito became the lead vocalist during Pacho Galán's most productive stage (22 LPs), interpreting major hits.

3. Retirement (1962 – 2022)

• Departure and Move: He left the Pacho Galán Orchestra at the end of 1962 and established himself in New York in 1972, retiring from professional singing.
