Description
TOMMY FAILE Story of Tweetsie RARE 45 railroad theme park souvenir NC country EX Shipping Info Description Rare and obscure 33 rpm 7" country rockabilly record: TOMMY FAILE Sings and Tells THE STORY OF TWEETSIE and Other Railroad Songs - a really hard-to-find one-shot souvenir release on Tweetsie Records, produced by Arthur Smith Studios; includes the original picture sleeve (blank on the reverse); no printed date but circa the late 1950's or early 1960's. I couldn't find any copies of this mentioned anywhere online.
Part spoken word, Johnny Cash style, with the Tweetsie song, and also with another song of his, the fairly scarce "Big Train", at the end of both sides (search "Story of Tweetsie" on Youtube - I've posted a video of some of the A-side playing, which includes some of the music and spoken word).
The Tweetsie Railroad began as an excursion train ride aboard steam locomotive #12, the only surviving narrow gauge engine of the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC). It became a popular tourist attraction, and evolved into one of the nation's first theme parks, still operating as a family- oriented railroad and Wild West theme park located between Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Tommy Faile was a country and rockabilly singer, songwriter and guitar player from South Carolina, best known for composing "Phantom 309" and singing "The Legend of the Brown Mountain Lights". He also had his own television show in the early 1970s, which aired on WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina.
