A nice condition copy of this very rare and highly sought after 1967 UK 1st press prog/psych classic, on the PARLOPHONE label, STEREO, PCS 7042

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   YEX 667 - 1 with stampers "1" and "R" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2   YEX 668 - 1 with stampers "1" and "G" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively

In normal daylight the appearance of the vinyl is excellent (EX). Glossy, completely flat and heavy duty vinyl with jet black lacquering and a beautiful sheen. Close scrutiny under a bright light reveals some wispy hairlines and a few very light, small scuff marks - all superficial and nothing that appears to be below the surface. Clearly this record has been carefully looked after and comes across as being underplayed. Overall I would grade the condition of the vinyl as very good plus (VG+).

The labels are excellent plus. Beautiful labels with all text, all colouring, and the iconic yellow and black Parlophone logo all in wonderful condition with the "K" and "T" tax code sitting proud on the side 1 label. There are just a couple of small, barely noticeable faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label but apart from that perfect! 

The condition of the front side laminated outer sleeve is very good plus (VG+). All edges remain firm with no scuffing, each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with just the slightest of light rubbing on each of the spine corners, the opening sides are similarly firm with no fraying, the spine is firm with all text perfectly intact and legible. There are some blemishes, however, each of which I have (as always) attempted to show in my photographs : there are six 1cm (or less) horizontal laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side, two of which do slightly impinge upon the spine itself; there are two small areas of very light laminate creasing on the front side just above the "W" in "TOMORROW", there is some slight browning/age discolouration towards the spine, top, and opening edges; on the reverse side the flipbacks are in excellent order but there are some occasional light marks and light age discolouration towards the edges...the reverse side does come across as a little "grubby" but all text is is in excellent order as is the reverse side photo of the band.

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent (EX). There is great tone and clarity throughout even at higher volume and frequencies. There are no skips or repeats and upon playback I could detect no clicking at all, with just some very occasional and very mild background crackle only really noticeable at the beginning and end of each side and during just a couple of the interludes (and even then not significantly intrusive). The stereo sound quality on this record is a definite excellent with every track on this "under the radar", rare mid-60's prog/psych gem making for a great listen.

Comes with original poly-lined inner sleeve with no tears or splits, no fraying and no unwanted writing - just some mild (but noticeable) browning and age discolouration but remaining 100% functional. Note that I always post the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a nice condition and very presentable copy of this rare and sought after 1967 UK 1st press "under the radar" psych gem - a worthy addition to any serious vinyl collection and only continuing to increase in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
