TONY BROOK & BREAKERS DEMO MEANIE GENIE 1964 COLUMBIA DB 7279
SUPERB CONDITION MOD BEAT DEMO WITH RARE PICTURE SLEEVE
On offer is The TONY BROOK with The BREAKERS 45 rpm DEMONSTRATION RECORD entitled MEANIE GENIE c/w OOH POO PAH DOO released in the UK on COLUMBIA DB 7279 in 1964. The A side - MEANIE GENIE - is an in-demand beat / mod dancer and the B side is a magic cover of Jessie Hill's OOH POO PAH DOO. The record has printed on the label the words - DEMONSTRATION RECORD NOT FOR SALE – and it has the characteristic big red A on the A side. The matrix numbers are 7XCA27428-1 and 7XCA279-1. This double header 45 has been described as a ‘GREAT PIECE OF COOL MOD MUSIC WITH BRILLIANT DRIVING GUITAR BREAK ON THE B SIDE’ and as ‘one of the real HOLY GRAIL items for collectors of FREAKBEAT … with great driving beat, pleading vocals, a tasty organ break… and… growling horns.’ If you do not know the A side already -I suggest you check the track out by listening to it on you-tube where someone has kindly made it available for all to hear.
This DEMO is extremely rare and sought after in its own right – BUT in addition this DEMO is for auction here with the incredibly rare original PROMO picture sleeve. This PROMO picture sleeve is printed on sleeve card - and NOT on the thin paper that were used to produce the majority of UK picture sleeves in the 196Os. It features a picture of Tony Brook who is described on the back of the sleeve as ‘A COLUMBIA recording artist represented by NOEL GAY ARTISTS’.
Ø The very rare flip-back picture sleeve is in lovely EX condition with the only blemish being the initials JRJ OK were written in ink by the original DJ owner on the top right hand corner. The sleeve is not split or torn and has only minimal ring wear. The picture sleeve lists the A side title as Meany Genie (and not MEANIE GENIE as per the actual title on the record) and it lists the B side title as Oo-Boo-Ba-Doo.
Ø The disc is in superb MINT / NEAR MINT condition and the 45 has only been played a few times at most. The vinyl has a lovely sheen.
Ø The labels show hardly any evidence of play. The initials JRJ OK were written on the A side label and the initials JRJ OKF were written on the B side – by the original DJ owner back in 1964. However this does not detract from the overall beauty of this rare picture sleeve demo. (Please see the scans).
This DEMO 45 is very rarely offered for sale at all – and is extremely rare in the original PROMO picture sleeve. This is your chance to become the owner of this highly sought after mod / beat demo from 1964.
