THE TONY WILLIAMS LIFETIME Emergency! (Polydor 583 574) John McLaughlin RARE UK 1st MINT!
RARE very first UK pressing of The Tony Williams Lifetime`s seminal double-album "Emergency!" on Polydor Records (c.July 1969).
"Even before Miles Davis went electronic, there was the Tony Williams Lifetime. Although this record predated the term "fusion", it is, in effect, the first full-scale marriage of jazz improvisation and spontaneity with rock power and energy. The brainchild of drummer Tony Williams, who had power-driven the Miles Davis Quintet since 1963, Williams broke with Davis in early 1969 to form a "rock" group with organist Larry Young and a then-unknown British guitarist named John McLaughlin. Their debut album, a double (...) was recorded in two days under poor studio conditions. There are hilariously dated moments - Williams and McLaughlin offering off-pitch croonings of pseudo-psychedelic lyrics, for instance - and the sound is still fair at best. Even so, the album captures a energy and spirit that has rarely been equalled in the genre." - Dennis Polkow - Chicago Tribune, August 1992.
