On September 29, 1980, Toots and The Maytals made history when the band played at London's Hammersmith Palais in England. Less than 24 hours later, a live album from that show, limited and hand-numbered, was on sale in record stores throughout Britain. Before that, a small number of limited, numbered promo copies were distributed. This is number 0132, as hand-stamped on the back of the sleeve.

The LP itself was the fastest live album in recording history and, according to some critics, TOOTS LIVE ranks alongside Bob Marley "Live At The Lyceum," "James Brown At The Apollo" and" Otis Redding in Europe" as one of the finest live records ever made.

The album is on ISLAND RECORDS with a special white version of their label, dated 29.8.80. with the catalog number TOOTS 1.

It has a khaki brown cardboard cover with photo and is stamped "Recorded & pressed in 24 hours" in red on the front and "Toots and The Maytals Recorded Absolutely Live at Hammersmith Palais September 29th See label for track details" stamped in red on the back.

The vinyl and label are in NM CONDITION, as perfect as can be, played perhaps once or twice.

There is some light water-staining at the bottom of the cover, but otherwise, it is solid, unscratched, no tears or corner flaring.

VINYL is NM, visibly clean with little evidence of play, no skips.

Cover is VG+ with no splits or ring wear, virtually no edge wear, good corners, some light-colored water stains at bottom on both sides.

Label is unmarked but for minor spindle marks.

VINYL GRADING ACCORDING TO GOLDMINE:

MINT (M)

Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed.

NEAR MINT (NM or M-) A nearly perfect record. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly)that no record is ever truly perfect. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes or other noticeable similar defects.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

Shows some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. There may be light warps that do not affect the sound. Label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated plays. Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus record highly acceptable.

VERY GOOD (VG) Surface noise may be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that could affect the sound. Labels might be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. The record will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.

GOOD (G), GOOD PLUS (G+) A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. It may will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove could be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve may have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects may be starting to overwhelm the object.

POOR (P), FAIR (F)

Record could be cracked, badly warped, and might not play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve may be water damaged, split on all three seams or heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves can be fully seam split, crinkled, and written upon.
