A CLEAN and RARE original 1971 first pressing of THE BEATLES = "YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD" - FILLED WITH RECORDING VARIATIONS of memorable melodies you know and love, recorded in 1963, unfolding the phenomenon known as BEATLEMANIA - as issued on the highly collectible TMOQ label.


This legendary album features a thick pastel yellow textured cover with the Pig/TMOQ custom sticker and block print. The record is a heavy-weight/inflexible pressing with custom designed labels as shown in photos - the printed side of label with song titles is very uncommon, and represents the very first issue.     
The release was by the legendary Trademark of Quality label of Southern California, known for its high production standards, perfectionism, and commitment to quality. TMOQ used only virgin vinyl for its product line...      
TRADE MARK OF QUALITY was a label of quality which evolved from numerous nondescript labels. One of it's creators said that once TMOQ was thought of - there was no other label.

For decades there has been and remains to be considerable confusion over what has to be the most famous of underground recording labels, being the TRade Mark Of Quality, or, T.M.O.Q. The primary problem is not just the evolution of a label but also the split of the cofounders, with both parties releasing their own releases using the same pressing plants and printers.   
When you are the best at what you do everyone aspires to be you and quite willing to copy you.   An important batch of rare recordings surfaced in the form of underground albums during 1971 covering a (by then) almost unknown and forgotten aspect of the Beatles' career - the sessions for BBC Radio. Anyway, they were advertised (on purpose, or not) as being studio outtakes. The first and best-known of these early bootlegs was called YELLOW MATTER CUSTARD  and it was a compilation of 14 songs, only one of which ("Slow Down") was previously officially released by The Beatles. Once it was established these were not outtakes, they were thought to be from a single -and inexistent- November 1962 BBC broadcast for a while, and even John Lennon himself (who once asked a fan for a copy of it) called them "the Decca audition". If we reverse sides A and B, we'll find the songs to be chronological highlights from the "Pop Go The Beatles" series from July-Sep 63. The original tape probably came from a British fan who only taped those songs not available on record (remember "Slow Down" didn't come out until 64) with a home recorder. A legendary underground album which was a MUST back in the day due to its high sound quality and rare material within.

CONDITION: The cover: Thick textured pastel yellow cardboard cover is rated final collection worthy  M- with solid appearance. Very sharp, just a light shade of discoloration to bottom left corner (minor!)... No dirt or soil to the fragile pastel color - no split seams, no bends, no writing ... Collectible TMOQ sticker at far left....

The vinyl: all clean and clear M- rating which is expected to play as clean as first released 40 years ago .... both TMOQ labels are clean
