Description
British Music Industry Award to Legendary Songwriting Duo
This is a genuine Silver Award issued by the BBC’s record company for £75,000 worth of sales of the album ‘Best of Top of the Pops Vol 1’. This was presented in 1976 to the legendary songwriting duo, Bill Martin & Phil Coulter. They were responsible for writing the Bay City Rollers hit ‘Remember’, which appeared on this compilation album. As well as writing other Bay City Roller hits, the duo were also responsible for writing numerous hits for other major artists in the 60s and 70s. From Sandy Shaw’s ‘Puppet on a String’, to Cliff Richard’s ‘Congratulations’, and even Elvis with ‘My Boy’ – his last US #1.
The award is in a silver metal frame measuring 16x20 inches (41x51cms). As you’ll see from the pictures, the disc has a number of marks and scuffs, probably from where the original glass broke. Everything else including the frame is in good condition. The plaque mounted on the award reads:

This award was produced by Century Displays, the official BPI (British Phonographic Industry) award manufacturer. These awards were only presented within the music industry, and should not be confused with any kind of replica or ‘limited edition’ discs that are sold direct to the public.
A unique piece of 1970s music memorabilia. The low starting price reflects the unrestored condition of the award.
