We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. The very first TAJ MAHAL album, considered his best works, accompanied by devestating slide guitar by Jesse Ed Davis and also RY COODER on guitar...

Though these 1968 sides were cut in LA at the apex of the burgeoning counterculture "Psychedelic" movement, the main influences at play here are those of the Mississippi Delta blues. Featuring early performances from Ry Cooder and Jesse Ed Davis, TAJ MAHAL is the joyfully confident debut that propelled the electrified bluesman to national recognition. Comparable to similar experiments by Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Mike Bloomfield and British blues maven John Mayall, Mahal's sound is both intensely traditional and aggressively pure.

For an example of the former, check out, "The Celebrated Walkin' Blues," the intro of which sounds as if it could have been recorded any time in the previous 30 years, while "Statesboro Blues," with Davis's thrillingly raw slide interjections featured heavily throughout, is an intensely focused performance still capable of producing chills decades after the fact. There's no tinkering with genre here, as was later to become the style with countless '60s and '70s blues rock bands--what's on offer on TAJ MAHAL is a direct electrified line to the heart and soul of a seminal American art form.

Most Blues players were changing their sound towards psychedelia. Taj Mahal recovers the old Blues sounds, but brings them with the last technological advances in the field of musical studios.
"Leaving Trunk" written by Sleepy John Estes, opens the album with a wonderful harmonica work. Blind Willie McTell is covered also in "Statesboro Blues" with an atonishing work with the slide guitar. In "Checkin' Up On My Baby" by the great Sonny Boy Williamson, we return to the old style Blues. Another song by Sleepy John Estes "Everybody's Got To Change Sometime", this time the highlights are the guitar solo and the amazing voice of Taj Mahal. "E Z Rider" is yet another highlight and a Taj Mahal original one of the best songs on the album. "Dust My Broom" follows, and more great blues guitar is unleashed. Mahal's voice sounds alot like Bob "The Bear" Hite from the Blues band Canned Heat.
