Rated at 4 ½ Stars by All Music Guide, Tower Of Power released their –arguably- finest album with 1974’s "Back To Oakland". This half-speed mastered LP pressing for "Back To Oakland" was manufactured by Direct Disk Labs and was an integral title in their Super Disk line of audiophile vinyl catalog.
?
It may not have contained the hit-single ("So Very Hard To Go") that their preceding album had. However, "Back To Oakland" sealed this band’s reputation with –song for song- its most consistently enjoyable album on many levels.
AMG contributor Ron Wynn writes: "Back To Oakland" had tougher, funkier and better-produced cuts. This album contains stronger vocals from Lenny Williams - who was more comfortable as their lead singer. "Back To Oakland" included an excellent ballad in "Time Will Tell", along with a rousing tempo number in "Don't Change Horses (In the Middle of a Stream)."
"Squib Cakes" is an explosive instrumental that solidified the Tower Of Power horn section’s reputation in both Soul and Pop music genres. Considering how often we’ve heard school marching bands perform this classic instrumental, "Squib Cakes" just may be Tower Of Power’s very own "Freebird", "Stairway To Heaven" or "Hotel California"!Rarely handled and played even less, this long out of print audiophile LP and protective album jacket are both in pristine condition. The loosely wrapped shrink has been left on with a slit at the jacket’s opening to allow access to the LP while preserving the original the contents original condition. The LP is enclosed inside of an anti-static record sleeve and is in perfect condition.
