Townes Van Zandt played to a standing room-only crowd in Nashville in April 1985, when he recorded this album at 12th and Porter. The show was billed as "the return of the lost sheep of the songwriting fold." The rambling Texas troubadour did not disappoint his fans, peers, and colleagues that night (or any other). In this intimate setting, Van Zandt's aw-shucks charm comes through not just his songs, but his in-between banter. As for the songs themselves — no one will argue that a stunning performance by a great singer can make any song seem transcendent. And when the author stands on-stage with little musical support to deliver the goods in their truest, original form — and they still shine — well, that's the moment when legends are made or broken. For Van Zandt was certainly no great singer, but his songs were no less transcendent when sailing on his voice. Though Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard made some of these tunes famous, it was Van Zandt that gave them life.

Notes: Neither side has ring wear, tape, spindle wear, or writing. Blue/white Sugar Hill logo on brown and light brown rectangle. Text is black on tan.
SLEEVE GRADE: VG+
Notes: Original plain white paper. No marks, no tape, no stains, lots of crinkles, slight yellowing, no splits. Rounded corners, circles cut in center of both sides to display label.
JACKET GRADE: VG
Notes: Light ring wear, no splits. No marks, no writing, a few crinkles. Edges and spine (readable) are in good shape; corners are slightly worn. Top right corner snipped to designate a cut-out. (See my original scan.)

Note: I haven't cleaned this 32-year-old vinyl record because everybody seems to prefer their own methods. I'll leave the cleaning up to the buyer. Also, I'm not a professional vinyl seller or buyer. This comes from my own collection. Bought at the Record Exchange, Roanoke VA.
