WOW!! For sale is a beautiful 1978 Tomato reissue of Townes Van Zandt’s incredible album Our Mother The Mountain still in it’s original shrink wrap! This copy was sealed until only a year ago when I decided to open it. It has only been played 2 or 3 times. There are a couple of small factory flaws that I will detail below. The shrink wrap is a tad on the brittle side and I cut off a section of it that was in the way after opening but it has done its job of protecting the sleeve which would be Near Mint if not for a slight corner crease...no real wear beneath the shrink that retains. If I was keeping it, I’d just remove the remaining shrink and keep it protected by a nice plastic outer sleeve, but I’ve left it for the next owner to decide. These Tomato reissues from 1978 were mastered at MASTERDISK and are vastly superior in sound quality than the more modern Fat Possum issues. Truly a wonderful audio experience!

Sleeve: EX-

BEAUTIFUL sleeve still mostly protected by original factory shrink wrap. Since opening, shrink has begun to separate and personally I’d just remove it but I’ll leave that to the next owner to decide. Underneath the shrink, the sleeve retains its “like new” glossy luster. A small crease to the lower right hand corner is the only real flaw to mention, thus giving it the EX- or VG++ grade...Shrink has protected the sleeve incredibly well, but I cut off a section of the shrink wrap that became annoying when trying to put into a plastic outer sleeve to prevent further tearing of the wrap. I’ve included photos showing the wear to the shrink wrap that the sleeve would have had if the shrink wasn’t there to protect it for 40 years!

Disc: NM-

GORGEOUS disc remains all of it’s original glossy sheen. This album was factory sealed for 40 years until I personally opened and played it a couple of times, handling it with great care. The disc remains exactly how it looked when I carefully removed it from the sleeve for the very first time. Absolutely no scratches or scuffs...beautifully clean!! NOTE: There are a few marks on side one track 4 that were there when I opened it, meaning they came from the factory process. The marks are very minor, but I am being thorough and as they are the only flaw to mention, I played it to see if they sound...and they create a very light, soft background crackle for a few rotations. That’s all. It’s very light and it’s only barely noticeable because I was listening for it and for the fact that apart from those few rotations, the disc plays incredibly quiet (like new) with crisp, beautiful audio! On a scale of 1 to 100, I give the overall audio a 99!

Labels: NM(??)

I’m not sure how to grade the labels. They are exactly as they came from the factory but there was some kind of flaw in the process...the Side One label has an odd, uneven surface to it. The labels themselves are perfect but the center of the disc underneath is uneven, making it look slightly off. See pics- I have taken photos from different angles so you can see. One similar yet much smaller spot is on the Side Two label also but very minor. Some factory “spidering” around the spindle on Side 2. There are no spindle traces, unwanted writing or marks and the labels are exactly as they came off the assembly line. SEE PICS!

Inner sleeve: NM

Original brown paper bag textured Tomato inner sleeve is in perfect condition. No splits, tears or creases. A generic inner will be provided to protect the original.

Grading System:

SS (Still Sealed)

Unopened records, still in original shrink wrap. In original manufactured condition unless otherwise noted (i.e. evidence of mildew or bent corners, etc.)

M (Mint)

The record and sleeve are in perfect, original condition. The record may have been played but will have no evidence of deterioration. (I will only use this grade on SEALED records that appear to be Mint as I believe any non-new, opened record cannot be truly called MINT.

NM (Near Mint)

A nearly perfect record. Any visible defects are of the type that "disappear" when the record is tilted under a strong light and they should not affect play. Sleeves in near mint condition will have no obvious signs of wear. Practically imperceptible ring wear may be allowed but no creases, seam-splits, or other easily detected flaws will be present.

EX (Excellent)

A very clean record. Near mint except for slight, superficial signs of wear. Sleeves in this condition may have marginal defects, but will not have significant creases or splits.

VG+ (Very Good Plus)

A well-cared-for record that is noticeably less than perfect, but defects are not visually or audibly distracting. Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or light scratches, but are still primarily clean. Sleeves may have some creases or minor ring wear, but should not be split.

VG (Very Good)

A used, reasonable copy to play. Many of the defects found in a VG+ copy will be more pronounced in VG condition. Surface noise may be evident and sleeves may look worn, but the record is still a decent copy.

G (Good)

A well-worn record that is still playable. Good does not necessarily mean "bad" but a record in this condition will have audible distractions and may have visible groove wear. Sleeves may have all manner of defects, but are still intact.

FA (Fair) and P (Poor)

These grades are for beat-up records. I will only sell records in these grades if they are extremely rare and sought-after.
