TRADER HORNE : MORNING WAY

Their classic 1970 debut lp with colorful gatefold cover & promo sticker

LP grades NEAR MINT ~ Janus Records JLS 3012 ~ WHITE LABEL PROMO ~ First Issue 1970

Original Gatefold Cover grades Excellent with slight ring wear (mostly on back), slight edge/corner wear & a tiny, faint stain in the upper left hand corner of the front cover ~ Top seam of the back cover has a small split (less than 2 inches) in the center ~ Spine & all other seams are intact with only very slight wear ~ Upper right hand corner is very slightly bent & corner at bottom of spine is slightly crunched ~ The inner cover, which features wild & colorful drawings of the artists & a few of their friends, is in NM- condition with spine intact

Record sight grades Near Mint (like-new) with very few signs of wear

The seldom seen white Janus promo labels are extremely sharp with no spindle marks, writing etc.

Here are a couple brief reviews of this album :

"One of the most interesting one-shots of the early '70s, this duo featured Irish multi-instrumentalist Jackie McAuley, who was responsible for some of those great organ lines on Them's early records, and Judy Dyble, who sang on Fairport Convention's first album before being replaced by Sandy Denny in 1968. Their sole LP, Morning Way, is nice if slightly precious British folk-rock with an Olde English, fairy-tale air, and will appeal to fans of the early work of both Donovan and Fairport." ~ Also : "Jackie McAuley's original material dominates the group's only album (Judy Dyble also wrote or co-wrote a couple tunes), a nifty bit of British folk-rock with both traditional and pop influences." ~ AMG

Here are the song titles, composers & times :

The Bear Says : Here is a rare white label promo copy of MORNING WAY, the first & only lp by the talented British folk duo known as TRADER HORNE. This title was first released in the States on the JANUS label in 1970. The extremely sharp labels on this copy would suggest that the record was seldom played. The vinyl itself shows very little wear, if any and receives the rare grade of Near Mint, my top grade for a used album. (Beware of sellers that claim their used record is in Mint condition. This is a fantasy. Only an unopened (& therefore unplayed) album can be in actual Mint.) The tripped out open-up cover shows only minor wear due to age & storage and remains in excellent (VG++) condition. Any original vinyl copy of MORNING WAY is a scarce item in 2005, but this first issue copy is a white label promo. The record offers progressive folk with a slightly trippy feel & certainly deserved wider exposure. Jackie McAuley is a clever songwriter & talented musician and Judy Dyble has a wonderful voice. Don't miss out on this obscure folky-psych gem. Good Morning !!
