This is the ORIGINAL UK MONO 1st pressing from 1967 on the 1st Press Pink Island “EYE Circle” logo label and 1st Press gatefold laminated flipback cover. This LP is seriously RARE AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND!
Another real piece of rock history! This was TRAFFIC’S FIRST LP, and is one of their most sought after!
It is the genuine article and in MONO! This is how you'd have heard it on pirate radio back in the 60's. Not many people had stereo in those days. It definitely has a different sound and is mixed as it was originally planned to be.
Mono was the main format of the day and so those mixes were done at separate sessions for each track. Mono was where all the work and time went and the stereo mix was pretty much cobbled together as an afterthought. I am also listing this week a STEREO version of this LP where the difference between mono and stereo can be compared.
The record is visually graded in very good (side A) / very good plus (side B) condition. Please see below a description of grades and note that this vinyl is 57 years old that has been played and will not transform into anything else.
The ROUGH PINK “EYE” ISLAND labels are in excellent minus condition with a name written on side B.
The notoriously flimsy Ernst J Day laminated 1st Press fold over sleeve is in excellent minus condition with some creases, edge and corner wear (please see photos).
The spine is partially worn out and mostly legible but complete with corner wear.
Photos are of the actual item.
PLEASE VISIT MY OTHER ITEMS AS I REGULARLY LIST RARE ORIGINAL LPs FROM JIMI HENDRIX, LED ZEPPELIN, LOVE, WHO, CREAM, PINK FLOYD, BOWIE, ETC... AS WELL AS INDIE CDs AND MUSIC MEMORABILIA FROM THE EARLY 2000s.
Play-grading MONO records: Mono records and stereo records have different grooves. A stereo record produces a stereo sound via both lateral and vertical groove modulation whereas a mono record is not intended to produce any sound from vertical modulation. Playing a mono record with a stereo cartridge will create distortion because it is trying to pick-up the vertical (stereo) part of the signal, whereas this is not intended to be heard on a mono record and so is just noise. Using a pre-amp with a mono switch will eliminate the noise caused by vertical modulation leaving just the lateral groove signal which is how the record was intended to be heard. If you do not have a mono switch on your amp or pre-amp you will be reproducing the noise from the vertical part of the signal and so the record will not sound as good. This is not any fault of the record, it is inherent to playing any mono record through a system that it was not designed for.
