MEGA RARE
"MR FANTASY" LP
1967 1st UK MONO
pressing
on the pink 'eye-ball'
ISLAND label
ILP 9224
A/B
1st Pressing Matrix Numbers
What makes this so rare?
1. The matrix numbers ILP961 A & ILP961 B are the earliest possible. 2nd pressings had a suffix number after the A & B e.g. A1/B1 or A1/B2 etc.
2. On Side 2 - there is a number '1' where the stamper number is usually found i.e. at the 9.0clock position in relation to the matrix number - indicating that the recording was made from the earliest mother metal tape.
3. The labels are heavily textured - later pressings has smoother labels.
4. The 1st pressing vinyl is a very heavy duty thick vinyl.
5. The cover is laminated (back & front) and unlaminated inside. The record is inserted into the sleeve from the inside of the gatefold. The right hand side of the inner gatefold has double flip-backs (top and bottom). The inner photos are slightly darker - these were lightened in later pressings. It has the Island 'eye-ball' logo + MONO ILP961 at the left hand side of the base of the rear cover - rather than the top right of the rear cover.
The record on offer here has all of the above features.
Cover: These 1st pressing covers were very fragile and most have been damaged over the past 40 years. This one is Very Good+ (not Mint or Excellent). No writings/doodles. However, the spine is heavily worn and has been taped to prevent further damage. There is a 1" seam split at the top of the spine but no other seam splits. There is a light crease to the bottom right hand side of the front cover. Some light wear along seams/edges. Although not mint, the inside is excellent and rear cover is exellent.
Labels: Side 1 is Excellent - just a tiny sticker residue. Side 2 is Excellent+.
Vinyl: Looks near Excellent. Not played since the early 1970s. Light feathering only. Would probably benefit from a light clean to bring it up to its best.
POSTAGE: £3.50 (UK) £5 (EUROPE) & £7 (REST OF THE WORLD)
Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.
Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.
Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.
Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.
Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.
Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc
Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
