THIS IS A MEGA RARE TRANSITIONAL UK 1ST PRESS OF THIS ALBUM WITH THE RARE BLACK LETTERING PRINTED IN THE INNER SLEEVE AND BLUE IN THE OUTSIDE COMPLETE WITH THE 12 INSERTS INCLUDING THE LIVE AT LEEDS POSTER.

IT IS ONE OF THE FIRST ISSUES OF THE 1ST PRESS BLUE LETTERING AND THE INSIDE PRINT IS VERY DARK BLACK. 

THERE ARE DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT THE RELEVANCE OF THE COLOUR OF THE BLOCK TITLE STAMP ON THE FRONT; SOME REFERENCE BOOKS ONLY MENTION RED AND BLUE BUT UNDOUBTEDLY A FEW BLACK STAMPS WERE AMONG THE EARLIEST FIRST ISSUED AND THEY WERE THE FIRST TO BE PRINTED. HAVING SEEN MANY, I AM OF THE OPINION THAT THERE WERE BLACK AND THEN BLUE AND RED GENUINE FIRST PRESSINGS WHICH WERE PRINTED FOLLOWING THE BLACK PRINTING. THE PRINTING WAS PROBABLY DONE IN TWO RUNS, FIRST PRINTING THE INSIDE AND THEN THE OUTSIDE. WHEN THE BLACK PRINTING WAS FINISHED THERE WERE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SLEEVES THAT HAVE BEEN PRINTED INSIDE IN BLACK AND THE OUTSIDE OF THIS SMALL AMOUNT OF COPIES WERE THEN PRINTED IN BLUE OR RED.

The vinyl is VISUALLY graded in NEAR MINT MINUS condition for side 1 and in EXCELLENT condition for side 2. Please see below a description of grades and note that this vinyl is 54 years old that has been played and will not transform into anything different to the condition stated.

The labels are in excellent condition with facsimile handwriting, said to be Pete Townsend's, with the notorious additional note "CRACKLING NOISES O.K. DO NOT CORRECT". These relates to the noise caused during the live recording from the bass of John Entwistle which is clearly heard in the record. The label on side 1 has a name written on the edge.

The outside Graphreaks gatefold sleeve with blue lettering is in excellent minus condition. The inside of the sleeve has the  TRACK text printed in BLACK.

The spine is split in parts.

Cover - Looks virtually new with signs of handling- Minor wear creases but no marks or damage. Light sleeves may show slight discoloration due to age.
Disc - May have minor scuffs &/or hairline scratches caused by moving record in & out of paper sleeve
 
Excellent                
Cover - Slight signs of wear on edges/spine, corners or ring wear. No damage caused by sticker removal/residue.
Disc- The record has been played and has superficial marks &/or hairline scratches and paper scuffs.
 
Very good              
Cover - Moderate edge/spine or ring wear. Corners may be a little blunt. Opening edge may show feathering caused by removal of record. Visible creases or laminate lift. Localised sticker removal damage.
Disc - The record has been played frequently and has noticeable surface marks, occasional light scratches and paper scuffs.
 
Good                      
Cover - Heavy ring or edge/spine wear. Corners noticeable bashed. Heavy creases. Considerable laminate/surface damage.
Disc - The record looks very well played and the sound quality has probably deteriorated noticeably. A lot of surface marks/scratches. Usually used as collection filler
