the RARE ORIGINAL CBS RECORDS LP, cat# S 63837 in <-STEREO-> from 1970
Here's one of the most sought-after albums on the lable and from the British folk genre!
The debut LP for this young group, it certainly warranted another album for their recording contract - as these are lovely songs, skillfully crafted and tastefully arranged. The guitar is 'heady' and laid-back - occasionally reminiscent of West Coast California psych.
They tackle some traditional numbers with aplomb, obviously well versed and probably staples of their live playing. However, their own numbers certainly don't show out as any less powerful - which tells you something of why they are still so highly regarded nowadays!
So, there's not one track one might want to skip past - a strength and quality that they managed to maintain throughout....and indeed onto their next LP too.
The vinyl is visually in shiny condition, under bright light shows surface sleeve-scuff. A couple of other marks don't disturb the needle, but this has been played a bit, and some distortion exists in louder parts. A little sound to the quiet spots and between tracks doesn't stand out too much, but because of the general wear I grade this as VG+ overall. Most certainly enjoyable when playing this strong musical quality - but not mint, or for the audiophile enthusiast necessarily.
The lables are bright and clean, with spindle-marks and wear around the centre-hole.
The lovely front-laminated single-sleeve cover is fairly respectable VG++, with light general storage wear, no splits. A name/initials in small pen on the rear, top-right corner, otherwise the rear card is in decent condition with only very light storage scuff.
