Trees : The Garden Of Jane Delawney A1 / B1 1st Press CBS 1970

This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with only a little intrusion on 'She Moved Thro' The Fair' on S2.  There are some very light ticks on the opening vocal section.  Aside from that the clarity, depth and warmth on all the other tracks is incredible and I do not use that word lightly.  S1 quite simply plays 'as new' and that is no exaggeration.  I have played every track in full and there is no background of any kind, the clarity is sensational.  The vast majority of S2 is of the same standard apart from that one section of course.  The vinyl is in superb condition also and has clearly not been over-played.

The cover is without doubt the most stunning example I have ever seen.  It is in beautiful condition and has been so well preserved down the years, it has barely any wear.  The original inner sleeve just has some creasing.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still retains a superb glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches.  Looking under a bright light l can only see a small number of very faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out.  There is just one very small hairline scratch on S2 causing those light ticks but it is extremely difficult to find!  The CBS labels are in great order with no marking and only a little spindle wear.

Play grading

The run in on S1 is exceptionally clean and then the long intro on 'Nothing Special' plays with stunning quality, there is no intrusion at all.  Humphris' opening vocal is of the same exact standard and thereafter plays with a clarity and depth that cannot be underestimated.  In essence the entire track is 'as new' with no sign of any background and Mint is richly deserved.  The fade out is a good example of the clarity on offer here with not even a solitary dust tick.

The super quiet intro on 'The Great Silkie' plays to perfection and the first vocal is of the same standard.  This opening section is so quiet and yet the clarity is stunning.  It has that CD like aesthetic quality but with the warmth and depth you only find on vinyl.  During this entire section I only noticed one barely audible static!  As the percussion comes in there no drop in quality and the sonic quality through this powerful instrumental is phenomenal.  Each note is so clean and precise, nothing gets in the way of the audio - there is is no 'muddiness' to the sound.  Wonderful depth and definition.  The final vocal keeps up the good work and again I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint such is the quality.  Remember this album is fast approaching 55 years old!

The intro on 'The Garden Of Jane Delawney' plays beautifully and the opening vocal from Humphris is as clean as it is emotive.  It continues to play with breath-taking clarity and I cannot emphasise enough just how STUNNING this version is, much like the previous two tracks if I'm honest!  It a classic for sure and every vocal and instrumental section plays with sensational clarity and warmth with literally no intrusion.  It is the most 'complete' version I have ever heard.  Mint

'Lady Margaret' once again defies the age of the album!  The acoustic intro and opening vocal section play with sublime audio and it continues to impress on every level.  This vinyl (and cover) has been 'lovingly' cared for and that is reflected in the quality of the music.  Running at over 7 minutes the playback is outstanding.  The mid instrumental section is free of any interference and the very quiet drumbeat / bass section is 'as new' with not one dust tick let alone anything more.  The following instrumental plays with incredible power and depth and again... there is no intrusion and no distortion either.  Superb work from Clarke here and the closing instrumental plays with faultless precision once more.  How often does this side play as Mint well this one does!

'Glasgerion' has a couple of very quiet statics on the intro and then Humphris' opening plays perfectly.  The following instrumental and vocal section both play with impeccable precision and then Clarke's solo could not play with any greater precision.  The remainder is of the same standard and Mint- is very much deserved.  In a sense the minus is a little harsh!

The acoustic intro on 'She Moved Thro' The Fair' is near perfect with only a handful of very quiet ticks right at the end.  The opening vocal section plays very clearly but there is a light tick once per revolution for about 45 seconds.  The majority of them are very quiet with only a small number that are a little more obvious, none are loud!  This is the first intrusion so far and the rest of this 8 minute track is as close to perfect as could be with only a couple of minor ticks.  The instrumental section is flawless with crystal clear audio and the final vocal plays with great clarity also.  The vast majority here is Mint- but I will grade that one section as VG++

'Road' then plays with high end audio through every vocal and instrumental passage.  There are only a couple of mega quiet ticks towards the end, you could easily miss them, and I will grade as Mint- accordingly.

The quiet intro on 'Epitaph' plays so clearly with just one obvious tick and then the opening vocal then plays with stunning clarity.  From then on it plays beautifully and again you have to marvel at the clarity of sound on such a quiet number.  Near Mint overall.

The intro on 'Snail's Lament' has just one barely audible static and the first vocal section plays with infinite quality also!  It continues in the same way and again I cannot overstate just how strong the audio is.  For a final track the clarity and definition of the audio is unbelievable and the more powerful end section has no distortion.  A stunning Mint version to end proceedings.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in superb condition with only very minimal shelf wear.  The edges have no rubbing / marking and the spine is the widest I have ever seen!  Not crushed by time!  It has only a couple of minor indents, no marking and barely any wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are also extremely clean and the opening edge has hardly any any handling wear.  The front cover is stunning and has no marking and only a couple of the usual edge creases next to the spine.  The back cover is equally as stunning with just one faint crease that you can only see when you hold the cover at a certain angle, hardly worth a mention really.  A tiny corner rub bottom left also but overall this truly is a fantastic example of this cover.

The original CBS inner is in excellent condition with barely any marking and just some creasing which is mainly in one corner.  No side splits or tears either.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
