EXTREMELY RARE Magni FLYS Promo Pack 1972
This is a wonderful item and great moment in pop music history. In 1972 Fly Records decided to put together this pack to help publicise the re-release of Debora by Tyrannosaurus Rex. Like the Bolan Boogie LP released at the same time, it was a blatant attempt by Fly to cash in on Bolan's success after he had switched to his own T.Rex label. By all accounts Marc was less than pleased.
Anyway, the result was this four maxi single pack including records by three other Fly/Regal Zonophone artists. The singles are: Tyrannosaurus Rex - Debora, One Inch Rock, Woodland Bop and The Seal Of Seasons. The Move - Fire Brigade, I Can Hear The Grass Grow and Night Of Fear. Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale, A Salty Dog and Homburg. Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends, Delta Lady and The Letter.
If nothing else, here are 13 cracking tracks including a couple of real classics. The records all come in their own Magni Fly sleeve and are all in excellent condition. They are the same as the commercial releases, not demos or promos of any sort.
The thicker cardboard outer sleeve has handling wear and slightly worn corners, but there are no tears, no writing, no stickers or anything else to spoil it. On its own a strong VG+ I would suggest.
Also included is a folded white bordered card with photos of the four artists.
Also included are four information sheets of the four artists, some containing interviews. These are in mint condition.
The final item is a lovely compliment slip signed by David Ruffell of Fly Records, which gives the release date as 24th March 1972. It is a great touch to finish off the package. Wish I know who he gave it to!
Please see the photos, they should show everything I have described. I got this off ebay about 15 years ago, paid good money, but I have not seen another one since.
