“THE TROJAN STORY” – A THREE-ALBUM COMPILATION ON TROJAN RECORDS TALL 1, RELEASED IN 1971. . As usual, I have listened to this while recording it and I’ve posted it as EXCELLENT+. Five of the six sides are in superb condition and there is really only one flaw that caused me to avoid saying it was ‘as new’. Details below.
THE DISCS.
- · SIDE ONE: looks perfect and plays perfectly.
- · SIDE TWO: also looks perfect and plays superbly. The only thing I would say is that I thought I heard a single snick at the end of Track 3 – there is no mark visible on the disc and I may have been mistaken.
- · SIDE THREE: looks perfect and plays superbly.There is a single snick at the end of Track 1 but again nothing visible and it may be that a proper clean will sort this one.
- · SIDE FOUR: looks perfect and plays perfectly.
- · SIDE FIVE: is the side with the flaw. Visually it looks as good as the others EXCEPT there is what looks like a small stain across Track 1 and the start of Track 2. It looks like something was spilt on it. I have not been able to remove the mark but it may be that a more sophisticated treatment than I can provide will sort it. Basically, it causes a background crackle, not a bad one and I was quite happy to record it – but you know it’s there. Once the stylus is clear of the stain, everything else is back up to superb standard.
- · SIDE SIX: visually, there is a visible surface mark on Track 1 and a wee mark on Track 8 but neither of these makes any noise.There is a wee crackle in between Tracks 7 and 8 and otherwise it plays perfectly.
THE COVER. Has a slightly unusual format in order to accommodate the three discs – it’s a sort of giant 12 inch envelope. It has held its shape very well with only slight wear on the top edge and down the front right edge. There is no writing on any edge. The front is pretty good, with some ring wear. Ditto the rear.There is also a crease in the rear upper right corner. When it comes to the inside, you can see two white strips at the sides going down behind the coloured cross-piece; the left hand strip has torn where it meets the cross-piece – a little repair called for! It comes with a single sheet of intro and notes on the tracks.

(NB. I have experienced a discrepancy between the postage costs that eBay apply when putting up a record for auction and those eventually charged. At second class this means 15 pence. I think I’ve got this cracked now but if it occurs I refund the excess. It may not seem like much but it's the principle!)
