Flying Dolphin/Metalville 2013 - BACK to the Roots ! The fantastic new album of the doom goods with the new voice Kyle Thomas (EX-Exhorder) on vocals and believe me, he has done a very good job ! The new Songs are in the direction of their first 3 milestones of US Doom/Power Metal.
The Distortion Field is also noteworthy for reuniting Trouble with legendary producer Bill Metoyer of Metal Blade Records fame, the original home of Trouble. He also produced the band’s classic first two records: Psalm 9 and The Skull.
The Distortion Field is a fine example of classic Trouble. Melodic doom/traditional heavy metal equally intertwine on this record, as Trouble step away a bit from some of their prior flirtations with stoner metal, which culminated on 1995’s Plastic Green Head.
Founding guitarists Rick Wartrell and Bruce Franklin pile on the riffs, the tempo range from slow to a medium pace, and Thomas’ vocals soar with a great deal of range. Thomas also has a slightly lower, gruffer pitch to his delivery than Eric Wagner, which seamlessly integrates with the generally up tempo music very well.
