Description

Oh, are you in for a treat!  This is a very rare 1982 original pressing of TSOL's breakout album 'Beneath the Shadows'.  Some fans say this is what killed the band, while others say this was the pinnacle of their work.
It definitely is a step away from the hardcore punk scene flourishing in LA at the time - certainly different than the stuff Black Flag, Fear, the Descendents, and Circle Jerks were putting out.  But it was also an album that proved punk was more than just three chords at a machine-gun tempo with distortion set to max.
Love it or hate it, this is one of those iconic, touchstone albums which marked one of the turning points in modern music.  So, you may be asking why I'm selling it?  The truth is I've kind of moved past this vibe and I think it's better to have someone who will appreciate this have it than me just keep it on the shelf, doing nothing.

And now this slice of punk history can be yours.  This is the original Alternative Tentacles pressing from 1982, not one of the new reissues made by some fly-by-night label using sub-standard machines.  This is history, not a cheap imitation.  Oh, and it's from a smoke-free home. So there's that.

  • Vinyl - VG+ (7/10): This is a visual grade, and it's actually a tale of two sides.  Side 1 (That Side) has a distinct surface scratch and is visually graded as 6/10, while side 2 (This Side) looks like it's never seen a stylus and has a visual grade of 9/10, averaging out to a 7/10.  That's a visual grade. See play for the important grade.
  • Jacket - VG+ (7/10): I suppose this could be called EX (8/10), but there is obvious ringwear, the white is yellowing, there is some marginal corner and edge wear. But then again the seams are intact, no bending, spindling or mutilating. No writing or stains, and even the inner sleeve is in good shape.
  • Play - EX (8/10): While visual grading is subjective, play grading is not, and this plays spectacularly.  Even the side with the clearly visible surface scratch has no ambient noise of any kind including pops, skips, hisses, or other irritations. Not even between songs.  If I called this NM it would be accurate, but I'm not into gilding a lily.  For reference this was played on a Pioneer PL-518 table using an Ortofon 2M Blue cart, running through a Marantz 2220 and RSL CG-6 speakers.
Note: I know what it's like to get scammed by dishonest ebay sellers and I do my best to be completely honest about my listings.  I'm proud of my 100% rating, so you can bid with confidence.  If you have any questions, please email me.
