Six bands...

Thirteen sweet ballads...

I’m not these records’ first owner, I’m their second.  Like all the other vintage punk I’ll be listing, I got these guys in exchange for helping a friend move in the mid 80’s.  My turntable exploded before I had a chance to listen to any of them, and they all went to sleep in a storage box.  These 7” discs have not been played for the better part of three decades...

General Condition

I played each side of these records two or three times with a new stylus on a turntable that’s notorious on Amazon for its skipping tendencies (it’s got an insanely lightweight tone arm.) My system isn’t good enough for me to accurately judge the discs’ fidelity, but, with one exception, the needle never skipped, and the needle never got stuck.  (Please see Discharge’s condition note below-it’s not all that scary.)  The best photos can be outrageous liars; below are the flaws I managed to spot from a close visual inspection. Quite a few of these I only noticed while holding the discs at an angle against the light.

I’ve tried to capture the records and sleeves’ strengths and flaws with the large photos here, but don’t hesitate to contact me for larger photos or any questions on condition.  If you need me to take a closer look at some specific parts of these guys, no problem.  Oh yeah- the music still sounds frigging fresh...

Pressing/Version

I mostly used discogs.com to determine the pressing here; please check my photos and notes to verify I’m right before spending your money.

Specific Condition

T.S.O.L.

I think the photos caught any flaws I could see on the sleeve.  On the disc’s first side, there are four areas of very faint scratching; some appear on track 1, some on track 2.  The second side has one faint scratch across both tracks and another which is curved and far more obvious in its depth.  None gave me any trouble; this is a great EP.

SF UNDERGROUND

I don’t have the sleeve for this guy...

Track 1 of the disc’s first side has a scratch about 3mm long.  Track 2 has two areas of scratching- one has three to four (the longest about 2.5cm); the other has two (the longest about 5mm.)  I didn’t see any evidence of scratches on the second side’s tracks.

This is a lovely little piece of vinyl:

A1: No Alternative - Johnny Got His Gun

A2: Flipper - Earthworm

B1: Tools - Asexuality In The 80's

B2: VKTMS - Ballad Of Pincushion Smith

I know there were at least a few pressings of this 33, but there’s mostly confusion on the net when it comes to identifying the versions.  “(P) 1979” is on both label sides, but I can’t say this is a first pressing-I simply don’t know.  No Berkeley or San Francisco address, no address at all.  If it helps, the etchings look like “ATR 910X34-A” and “91OX34-B MPTA9”.

DISCHARGE

Again, I think the photos caught any flaws I could see on the sleeve, but the disc’s first side has a potential issue that should be noted.  There’s a 1mm dint on the 3rd track that my lightweight tone arm just couldn’t get past.  BUT.  I then played the same side four times on a turntable with a heavier arm with no problem at all.  The lightweight arm had no problem with a few other issues on this side (one thin and faint scratch across the tracks, and another even fainter one that looks like what you could achieve with a soft fingernail... )  The second side makes up for the first- I didn’t see any evidence of scratches on any of its tracks.  Photo 9 also shows a cosmetic flaw on the bottom of this disc-its outer edge has a nick that is either the result of a drop or just not-so-clean cutting at its pressing.

With that picking of nits done, these guys are phenomenal for their age.  Good shape, great punk.

Shipping and Stuff

Please see my feedback to get an idea of the accuracy of my descriptions and my pathological obsession with secure packaging for all things vintage.  These items are very well documented so, again, please contact me if you want larger photos or have any lingering questions on condition.

Discs and sleeves will be packed separately to prevent any damage to the cover art, and all will be ludicrously well-protected for their journey to their new owner.  I’ll be absorbing a good portion of the shipping cost because I just can’t see subjecting these glorious pieces of history to the stupidity that is Media Mail.

Fully insured, shipping for USPS Priority is 4.00.

The Slightly Finer Print

Combined shipping

In many cases, there may be some combined shipping savings which I can pass on to you, but ONLY if you contact me BEFORE completing PayPal’s checkout. Please realize that combining orders might require me to repack the items and delay shipping by a day.

Payment

Sorry, but eBay will automatically open an “unpaid item case” for any buyer who has not paid within 48 hours of the auction’s close. To avoid this messy process, please pay upon winning.

Returns

Please note that I cannot consider returns for this item unless I have misrepresented it in my description and photos. Having said that, please contact me if you are in any way dissatisfied upon receiving it- I want both of us to be happy with the exchange. Feedback is the only real measure we have as buyers and sellers, and I strive for nothing less than a 100% 5-star rating.

Buyers with zero feedback

If you are new to eBay and have no feedback rating, please do not bid on this item without contacting me first (use the “Ask a question” link at the bottom of this page.) I’m happy to work with new buyers, but I will immediately cancel any suspicious bids which might hurt an honest auction.
