THE TUBBY HAYES QUARTET - TUBBY'S GROOVE
Great copy of this 1960 UK 1st press jazz rarity with impressive sound quality throughout - Tubby Hayes unleashed!
Excellent (EX) condition vinyl - weighty and completely flat, in normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as virtually perfect and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that a few non-obvious and non-feelable very wispy hairlines and extremely faint scuff marks can be identified. Nothing of any real significance and certainly nothing to spoil a tremendous listen. Excellent (EX) deep groove condition labels : again, very close inspection under a bright light reveals a few small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, but no other blemish at all. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played and well looked after by it's previous owner(s) - hard to believe that it is 66 years old! Excellent (EX) condition front-side-only laminated UK West Brothers outer flipback sleeve with firm unscuffed edges, including a firm spine with all spine text remaining beautifully intact (the "Y" in "TUBBY" is slightly obscured by a laminate crinkle). All colours, art work, text and photos remain in beautiful, vibrant condition with great clarity and definition still. There is no cardboard creasing, the opening edges are firm with no fraying, each corner is a near perfect right angle with barely any rubbing at all, and there is no unwanted writing. The only "blemishes" are a few small (<1cm) non-obvious and extremely trivial laminate crinkles adjacent and perpendicular to the front-side top, bottom, and spine edges (five in total), and two extremely thin and non-obvious horizontal score lines towards the front side bottom left corner (see photo), along with a very small laminate "nick" and barely discernible 3cm laminate crinkle in the same vicinity. The flipbacks on the reverse side remain in near perfect condition...in fact it is difficult to fault the condition of the reverse side at all. Take a good look at my photos where I have tried to show a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this iconic sleeve - hard to believe that this copy is 66 years of age...it really is gorgeous! Truly excellent (EX) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion or interference, and any background crackle is limited to A3 where there are just a couple of small passages with the merest hint of some very minor and non-intrusive background crackle. You may come across the very occasional and very light background click (there are x3 towards the beginning of A3 and x2 on the same track a little further on, and x3 equally background and non-intrusive clicks on B2) but again these are non-intrusive and close inspection of the vinyl under a bright light reveals no obvious cause for any clicking anywhere - I suspect that there are a few tiny specks of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage which a proper and careful clean would remedy. Crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout with great tone, and each and every track remaining a great listen...exactly as you would expect from this cohort of jazz legends : Tubby Hayes (tenor sax, vibes), Terry Shannon (piano), Jeff Clyne (bass), and Phil Seamen (drums). This is Tubby Hayes at his absolute peak! Comes with excellent (EX) condition poly-lined inner sleeve with no side splits or age discolouration, no edge fraying, and just a little very mild creasing towards the bottom two corners. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. An excellent condition copy of this 1960 UK 1st press jazz rarity. Hard to believe that this copy is 66 years of age - I can't imagine that you would find many in better condition than this!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
