Proud to present a great copy of surely one of Tubby’s crowning moments – the December 1959 recording featuring, of course, Phil Seamen, Jeff Clyne, Terry Shannon and Tubbs himself.  Very happy to offer an original UK Tempo of this landmark session and in fine condition, visually and audibly and with a really well looked after sleeve too.

The fully laminated, double flipback sleeve is a well above average example.  Away from Mint we have a few soft handling creases towards the opening edges; a tiny patch of laminate flaking to the rear opening; a thin line of laminate lift/bubble to the opposite edge on the rear and some slight toning of the rear panel over time.  In the bottom left rear corner there are the faint remains of 2 numbers and a letter.  All very small imperfections and ones that really don’t detract too much from the overall appearance.  Now here’s the good news: there’s NO splits or tears or pulls.  The ‘pinched’ spine is superb with ALL text legible and with no compression.  There’s hardly any corner wear to speak of and there’s only faint evidence of ring impression.  Rear flips are absolutely solid with no lift or chips and the front laminate maintains a great shine with little dulling.  Opening edges still pretty sharp too.  It’s a 53 year old sleeve now – and it’s an EX (Excellent) example which has stood the test of time really well.

The classic purple and white Tempo labels are also very pleasing.  Very light spindle evidence (maybe 2 or 3 lines to one side and less to the other).  There is a light age spot to Side 2 (near invisible) but NO writing, residue, pulls or scrapes.  Tremendous pair of these iconic UK Jazz labels!!

The medium to heavyweight vinyl has also been very well cared for.  Firstly, it sits perfectly flat on the deck and plays like a dream – but more on that later.  Visually, it retains a great shine and looks carefully handled.  There is one scuff line to Side 1 and two fine hairlines to Side 2.  Under (very) close examination, you may pick up some fine sleeve traces but to all intents and purposes this looks great with little to fault.  There are NO scratches, NO embedded dirt or dust pockets and NO bobbles, craters or scrapes.  Visually I’m giving it an EX- (Excellent Minus) grade but if you’re looking for tip-top audio, preserved beautifully after 53 years, then, like me, you’ll be blown away.  Please read on:

IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO FROM START TO FINISH (not just a selective, piecemeal play).  I’m happy to report that this record’s sound astounded me.  Firstly, the run-ins are silent, in fact the whole record is free from audio imperfections, bar a couple of soft ticks on Side 2.  So that means no snap, crackle or pops, NO clicks, hiss or groove wear and no distortion, loss of clarity, lack of definition.  It’s a supremely well produced record (by Tony Hall) – and I’m pretty sure you’ll agree when I give the play grade a fantastic M- (Mint Minus).  Sounds immense!

Many see this as Tubbs’ finest moment and with such classics as ‘Tin Tin Deo’ and ‘Sunny Monday’ who am I to argue?  Here’s a great vintage copy with no reserve.  Also presented in its original poly-lined inner.
