Classic snotty garage punk with an ear-piercing reedy organ and occasionally blistering fuzz sound out of Xenia, Ohio. They were the Turfits, formerly the Vandaliers, and the brilliant Nuggets punker “Losin’ One” was actually a re-cut version of an old Vandaliers number, which I’m SURE they musta improved on here. Great stuff, and thanks to it being on a major label, it doesn’t suffer from the murky sound of most private labels – in fact, the drums are mixed so loud you’d think this might be a neo-garage psych band from the 90’s! Flipside “If It’s Love You Want” is a faster bit of swinging faux Motown soul pop with growling slurred vocals, a real corker on the dance floors in Xenia I bet. Incidentally, the Turfits appeared on the Phil Donahue show in Ohio wearing women’s skirts. I just hope their turfits weren’t showing.
