He was born 1912 in a village near Erzincan (Armenian: ??????) to a family of bakers.

His apperance was unusual: he was tall, blond and blue-eyed. As his musical fame

rose at home, he went to live in Istanbul and became famous there when he made his

first record with the help of Hafiz Sharif.

He lost much of his family in the 1939 earthquake in Erzincan, so he returned to Istanbul

and opened a musical coffee shop. He died in Ankara in 1953 from a heart attack.

Here he sings with his wife Seher.  Such man-and-wife recordings are rare in Turkish music.
