A record that needs little or no words at all for anybody in the know, up for bid is a one of the rarest funk lp's around "ACT ONE" from Indianapolis' TURNER BROTHERS!
I have taken the time to take some snaps of this crazy piece of wax - the cover has some dirty edges, the shrink is dirty also but I have decided to leave it on. Also, one side two, the label has a stamp on it with an address - it does appear like this could have been a promo copy because it appears to have an agencies address...but there is no sign of promo whatsoever - see pictures. The vinyl is conservatatively graded at VG++ (as I hate the M- grade) and it has been played though - no skips, very, almost not even detectable slight pops on both sides but really, this thing is a MONSTER! Super clean pressing!

One of the last great years for funk music. Real funk music. Raw and gritty. The way it's supposed to be. Funk was the peoples music, played in BBQ joints and dive soul brother bars. It was music aimed directly at the ass. With the exception of George Clinton and a select few, funk went into hiding during the late seventies disco craze. Forward 25 years later, and enthusiasm for the funk phenomenom is stronger than ever.
"Act 1" was originally released on their own label and was a huge local success, earning the brothers a level of respect that they still receive in Indiana today. Eventually the band disintegrated. Today most of them are preachers and deacons, electricians and accountants.
This is no light weight one-track wonder soul album, but rather a sweet and funky long player, brimming with funky bass lines, oo-wee vocals, fat breaks, and afros. Lots of afros. And yes, it was recorded in 1974.
