What is it?: Television Personalities - I Still Believe In Magic (Caff Records CAFF 5)
Mail order only single released on Bob Stanley from St Etienne's boutique label. I sent £2.50 to get a copy of one of these in 1989 but since I was still about 15 and couldn't send a cheque, I sent cash which disappeared in the post. I then got my dad to send a £5 cheque to buy two of them. Rock and roll. Anyway, those in the know will be aware that this is two sides of Dan Treacy at his most impoverished; I Still Believe In Magic sound classy compared to his version of Respectable by Mel'n'Kim on the other side. Has that come out since? I cannot imagine Stock Aitken and Waterman would be very enamoured of Disaster Dan's rendition.
The sleeve: MINT - Yep - I never removed it from its plastic sleeve, though a quick peek inside confirms that the insert that came with it is still there. I owned it from new and never touched this one.
The record: MINT - I never grade anything mint unless I know it is utterly untouched-by- human-hand perfect, and on this rare occasion, it is true. As I noted above, I bought two copies and played the other one.
Trust my grading: I worked in one of London's top collectors shops for several years and do my best to be as strict as hell, even though I know my VG is most people's MINT on eBay.
