The 20th Century Zoo were the first Psych band from Phoenix to have a national album release. The story begins in 1966 when West High School student Bob Sutko recruited Allan Chitwood, and Greg Farley and formed the folk-rocking Bittersweets. The band became the fixture on the valley rock scene, measuring up to such local legends as the Spiders, the Caravelles,The Mile Ends,Vibratos, and Phil and the Frantics. The Bittersweets released two local singles in 1966 & 1967 including the sought after"Cry your eyes out" (Hype 102) The Bittersweets gained support of Tony Evans, and influential music director of phoenix radio giant KRIZ(1230 AM). He helped release thier third and final single called "In the night"/"Another Chance"(OSR 70). By late 1967 Bittersweets decided to take another tack, psychedelicizing into the 20th Century Zoo. Besides ex-Bittersweets Bob Sutko(vocals & Harmonica) Greg Farley(rhythm gutair) Allan Chitwood, and drummer Paul Bennett, the group picked up Paul"Skip"Ladd, formerly of the Laser Beats , was a very local popular band which had a now famous drummer known as "Neal Smith" of the original Alice Cooper band. Skip would play lead gutair for 20th Century Zoo. Band manager Chari Zelman-finaced a session at Audio recorders on north 7th St. in Phoenix. The resulting single's A side"Clean Old Man"(CAZ 103) gave little warningof the ferocityfound on the flip. The mind crunching fuzz of "you Don't Remember"could have clinched lengendary status for the zoo it self. Shortly after the record hit the streets in the late 1967 Bennett recevied greeting from Uncle Sam,so they brought in Randy Wells on drums and proceded to release more singleslike "Love in your face",Tossin and Turnin", In the fall of 1968 Chari Zelman secured a record contract with Vault records of Los Angeles. they spent about 2 weeks in LA's sound factory studio's,which the results were phenominal. The album is titled"Thunder on a Clear Day".

LP condition GRADING system:
M (MINT) : Sealed, never opened or played, new in original package.
NM (NEAR MINT) : Near perfect copy, played only a few times. At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws. This is the highest grade I give for a non-sealed (used) record.
EX (EXCELLENT) : Clean copy, slight surface marks/hairlines, cover has minor defaults.
VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : More surface marks, minor flaws, or cover wear, minor edge wear (cover). Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults.
VG+ (VERY GOOD +) : Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has marks, possibly few light scratches but no jumps or sticks. Cover wear (light ring wear, heavier corner or edge wear on cover).
VG (VERY GOOD) : Used record, played a lot, has marks, few scratches, some crackling while playing and but no jumps or sticks. Still quite listenable. Cover may have heavy corner, edge wear or split seams.
G (GOOD) : Played a lot and more (but still playable), lot of scratches, crackles a lot while playing, may have jump or sticks and cover is damaged...so not so good ! This record must be very rare to be proposed in this state !!!
