Description
Here's CARL T. SPRAGUE, a genuine singing cowboy. In fact, he was the FIRST singing cowboy, beating Gene Autry and Roy Rogers and a host of others to the cowpunch by a country mile. Here, with the assistance of two fiddlers, he sings and plays:
"THE TWO SOLDIERS" and "UTAH CARROLL"
(The name "Lomax" in the composer credits is intriguing. I wonder if it could be the young John Lomax, who later made the amazing series of records for the Library of Congress Folk Music Division.)
This record was made in Savannah, Georgia, in August, 1927, in the same legendary space that accommodated the Ross De Luxe Syncopators, The Jacksonville Harmony Trio, Sugar Underwood and a host of other talent, all recorded with the same priceless acoustics heard only in that disused tobacco barn...
This original 1927 "Scroll" Victor 21194 is in somewhat beat VV+ condition. One 1-1/2" deep scratch on "Utah." It plays very well, considering ....

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
