UNFINISHED MUSIC No1: TWO VIRGINS John Lennon Yoko Ono APPLE 1ST Pressing 1968
I won this album in a raffle at Hornsey Town Hall in 1968. First prize was a bundle of Apple and Zapple records and a kiss from the Hornsey Carnival Queen. It's completely original and came direct from Apple/Zapple and not from a shop. The record has been played once, not in it's entirety.
The vinyl is VG + , The cover is complete but wear and tear as you'd expect from an album over 50 years old. The cover is laminated with a cellophane type material which is showing some wear in the corner one of which has a 2cm triangle absent. The inner sleeve is of fragile black material and there is a slight tear in the centre, and is frayed at the outer fold. The vinyl marks are SAPCOR 2A - 1, and SAPCOR 2A - 2
John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Two Virgins is an avant-garde album recorded during an all-night session on May 19, 1968, at Lennon’s Kenwood home studio in Weybridge. The recording was a deeply experimental collaboration, featuring sound collages, loops, and Ono’s vocalizations, reflecting their budding relationship and creative synergy. The album’s title symbolized their feelings of innocence and vulnerability in a chaotic world. It was released on November 29, 1968, in the UK by Apple Records and distributed by Track Records after EMI refused to handle the controversial cover art . The album became infamous for its cover, which featured nude photographs of Lennon and Ono taken with a time-delay camera. To mitigate backlash, it was sold in a plain brown paper bag. Despite its avant-garde nature and limited appeal, the album reached #124 on the U.S. Billboard charts but did not chart in the UK.
