TYRANNOSAURUS REX – A Beard Of Stars ORIG Regal Zonophone LP / SLRZ 1013 (UK, Stereo, 1970)

Happy to present a complete and close to mint original Zonophone UK 1st press of the last LP to feature ‘Tyrannosaurus’ before Marc truncated the name and found super stardom later the same year (1970).  This copy is supplied with the insert which is in very fresh condition. Matrices: - 1U/ -3U.

The single format, fully laminated sleeve is a good one, by that in record grading terms it’s in EX (Excellent) condition.  Overall, there’s only 2 creases of any size – both on the front.  There’s a handful of really tiny spine edge creases but not intrusive and not deep or established. Tiny nick to the bottom edge, a spot of corner wear to the right bottom and a thin line of rubs to the very small area where the laminate has shrunk very slightly.  Great shape after 40 years!  No splits, writing (although there is the old price of 37/5 indented top right when you look in light), heavy creases, scrapes or noticeable ring impression.  Pretty sharp opening edges and spine is near perfect with no chips and fully legible text.  Very pleasing example worthy of a place in a strong vintage collection.

The original crimson red Zonophone labels are very nice indeed with just very light spindle evidence maybe showing no more than a half dozen plays.  No damage, writing or stickers either.  Great pair of vintage RZ labels!

The original light card double sided lyric insert is near to perfect, just light signs of handling but no tears, staining or writing.  There’s a tiny corner crease to the top right.  Fab!

The sharp medium to medium heavy weight vinyl is a real dazzler with hardly a mark on it.  I can’t spot any scratches, scuffs or hairlines. Maybe there’s one or two ultra faint ‘withdrawal’ traces if you look mega close, but not obvious and overall this disc must rank way above the average state you usually find Marc’s vintage LPs in.  To all intents and purposes it looks close to mint but ‘mint’ is a word I rarely use so I’ll say EX+ (Excellent Plus) hoping to wholly satisfy the winning bidder.  IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays superbly with hardly an audio blemish to mention.   I LISTEN INTENTLY TO ALL MY LISTINGS AND GIVE YOU ALL FLAWS AWAY FROM A 100% SILENT DISC.  All I heard here was a brief single pop towards the end of Side 1 and a couple of very light ticks on ‘Elemental Child’ – virtually inaudible because of the heavy electric guitar on this track.  Other than these, it maintains a lovely rich, deep and inviting sound only vintage vinyl is capable of.

Fabulous addition to any high grade Marc collection or any connoisseur 60s/70s collection in general.  This sold a few back in 1970 but I bet not many have survived as good as this.  No reserve.
