ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and rare LP from La Voix de Son Maitre (ASDF 143, French pressing, red/silver semi-circle label – ED1, stereo) features pianist Gabriel Tacchino's high-octane rendition of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor Op. 18, recorded with conductor André Cluytens and l'Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in the spacious acoustics of the Salle Wagram, Paris, on 1 October 1959. Tacchino can withstand the most exalted comparisons here and plays with coruscating brilliance and panache in the outer movements, and mines a deep vein of poetry in the slow movement – extraordinarily fine!

Incidentally, the striking cover photo was taken by C. Poirier, and there are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Georges Léon, printed in French only.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is some bumping/wear at corners, as well as a small bit of writing to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is VERY GOOD. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is excellent, some crumbling in the sound towards the end of the slow movement apart. Thus, if you must have flawless or near-MINT surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
