This auction is for the album A Tchaikovsky Spectacular Original Master Recording LP produced by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.  Stereo Recording.  MFSL 1-502 (100C-2). First Japanese Pressing.

The London Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Andre Previn in this spectacular presentation of  Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.  A true landmark recording, this production includes the powerful cannon shots and shimmering carillons that made Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs a legend in the audiophile community.  You've heard about this recording, and now is your opportunity to hear it firsthand.

In addition to The 1812 Overture, this album also contains Marche Slave, Op. 31 and Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture).  It was originally recorded in England in 1973 by EMI and released on the Angel label.

This pressing was made in Japan, using a half-speed mastering process and specially plated stampers, on heavy, thick premium virgin vinyl.  A Tchaikovsky Spectacular is noted for having the greatest dynamic range ever recorded on vinyl.  With this mint audiophile edition, you will hear all of the detail in the strings, the expansive ambiance of the hall and the pealing church bells, and all of the incredibly tight bass response and dynamics of the cannon shots.  This album is a must for every serious classical music listener, every serious audiophile, and anyone who just wants to hear just how good vinyl can sound.

Vinyl: Mint/NM/M-  No visible defects whatsoever. A couple of very minor spindle marks.
Cover:  Glossy Cover. Excellent/+, minor edge wear, one banged corner.  Otherwise shiny and perfect.
Inner Sleeve:  Mint Original Master Sleeve; Static-free plastic/rice paper inner sleeve.
Inside Protective Cardboard Sleeve:  Mint original cardboard inner sleeve, with lots of old 1980's MFSL advertising on it. :)


I am the original owner, and I am a recovering audiophile. I have always taken fastidious care of my records.  This album is from my personal collection.  This record has been played seldomly, maybe a few times, if that many, always using a properly-adjusted tonearm and cartridge, and only after dry cleaning carefully with a carbon-fiber brush. Please bid with confidence, knowing that you are going to own a truly rare item in exceptionally good condition, sounding just as good as a sealed copy, but at a much lower price. NO RESERVE. 

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab uses an album’s master tape(s) combined with a unique procedure known as "half-speed" mastering, which literally slows down the cutting system involved in mastering the vinyl so that musical information can be transferred from the source tape to the lacquer with greater precision. This advanced mastering technique adds substantial refinements in the vinyl compound itself and improves methods of plating the lacquer. The result is a significant improvement in overall performance from the vinyl medium." The vinyl records are pressed on "High Definition Super Vinyl" by the Victor Company of Japan and are then packaged in "Special Static Free Dust Free" inner sleeves with the finest heavy-duty protective packaging.
