Ted Heath with Annette Klooger – The Rock and Roll Waltz, 1956 7” Decca F 10701.
This is a decent example of The Rock and Roll Waltz / Rock Around The Island by Ted Heath and his Music with Annette Klooger. It was released on the Decca label in 1956 – F 10701 – and is in around G+ to VG condition.As soon as I spotted the record I could see that it looked very unusual. Most obviously, it has a solid centre. It ought to have a four-prong push-out centre. I cannot recall ever coming across a solid centre Decca single from this time. The label states it to be made in England and it has a regular looking label with a regular UK catalogue number. And not instantly visible (and not really apparent in my picture) it is slightly over-sized. Most UK singles are actually a fraction smaller than the full 7”. Most 1950s paper sleeves tend to measure 7” across and the record has to fit inside. This record is the full 7” across and I have just measured it against a variety of other 1950s singles and this is noticeably bigger than all of them. It is almost as if the record was removed from the final pressing / stamping process where the four-prong centre should have been pressed out and the edges trimmed to the correct size. Maybe as some sort of quality control process? But as such it should not have left the factory I think. The record will be supplied in an original Decca company cover. This is partially split along one of the edges – which was caused simply by putting the record in it.
