This song was originally called "Why Do Birds Sing So Gay?". Herman Santiago, tenor of The Teenagers (group from Washington Heights, NYC), wrote the song based on a line from some love letters given to the group by a tenant. The tenant felt the group sounded great but could use some writing inspiration. The beautiful love letters were written by the tenant's girlfriend in Puerto Rico. The song is a doo wop classic with amazing singing by 13 year old Frankie Lymon and immaculate production by George Goldner. George Goldner (owner of GEE records) was a genius at bringing out the best from his performers.
This 45 rpm is a rarer early pressing with Santiago included in the writing credits. The 45 is in NM- condition great sound on both sides and very glossy, no skips and no warping. Also included is a super clean original GEE company sleeve which advertises George Goldner's main label Tico records.
