Joseph Keilberth was one of those great German conductors, like Carl Schuricht, who was almost shamefully neglected by the major record companies, despite his manifold gifts as a conductor of Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Bruckner, Wagner & Richard Strauss.
The Keilberth Beethoven cycle is superb and well-worth seeking out. Sadly, only the First coupled with the Eighth, the Eroica, the Fifth and the Seventh were issued in the UK.The second is available as a US issue TLS and the Sixth as a German issue SLT only, I believe.
His Brahms 2 with the BPO is the finest account of that score I have heard...
These early SMAs are from the earliest years of stereo (1959) and are hard to find.
