Description
This lot contains ten 10-inch 78 RPM records, all in the genre range of jazz, dance band, popular and vaudeville, all on the Victor label. As noted individually below, six of the sides are listed in Brian Rust's Hot Jazz Discography. The others, presumably, were not considered "hot" enough for inclusion, although "Am I Blue?" and the two High Hatters sides must have come close. My guess at their age is approximately 1920's, give or take a few years.
All ten are shown in the first picture, then I split them into smaller groups and shot each group from both sides for pictures 2 through 7. Get yourselves comfortable, and I'll go through them one by one, starting with pictures # 2 and 3.
Victor # 18643 -- "You'd Be Surprised" and "Keep Movin'" by the All Star Trio.
Victor # 19201 -- "Dream Daddy" and "The Only Girl" by Jack Chapman and his Drake Hotel Orchestra.
Victor # 18081 -- "My Mother's Rosary" and "Yaaka Hula Hickey Dula" by the Avon Comedy Four.
Victor # 19087 -- "Stella" and "Carolina Mammy" by the Great White Way Orchestra.
Pictures # 4 and 5:
Victor # 19130 -- "That Big Blond Mamma" by the Tennessee Ten; and "Sobbin' Blues", by the Benson Orchestra of Chicago. Both sides are listed in Rust's discography, with separate 1923 recording dates.
Victor # 19138 -- "Oh! Sister, Ain't That Hot!" by Charles Dornberger and his Orchestra; and "Mean Mean Mamma", by the Benson Orchestra of Chicago. Both sides are listed in Rust's discography, also with1923 recording dates.
Victor # 19957 -- "But I Do - You Know I Do" and "My Darling" by Ralph Williams and his Orchestra. Both sides are listed in Rust's discography, with a recording date in December, 1925.
Pictures # 6 and 7:
Victor # 22780 -- "Me!" and "What Is It?", by the High Hatters, conducted by Leonard Joy.
Victor # 22241 -- "Dream Lover" and "Lonesome Little Doll" by Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra.
Victor # 22004 -- "Am I Blue?" and "Let Me Have My Dreams" by Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra.
They could probably all use a good cleaning, but they otherwise look to be on average in about VG condition (some not as good, but some closer to VG+). They all have some visible surface scuffs and scratches (some sides more than others). I've played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and there are no skips or jumps, but varying degrees of background noise, including some click-click-click passages. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering devices and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment.
PAYPAL: Let us preface this by saying that Paypal has never been our preferred method of payment, but we realize it is now basically the only form of payment that eBay allows. For international orders, therefore, we now accept payment only by Paypal, unless you initiate some other form of payment that we agree to in advance. Repeat, in advance, please.
Please note also that, due to Paypal's ridiculously over-protective "Confirmed Address" policy, we no longer honor requests for shipment to third party addresses, and we reserve the right to refuse to ship to unconfirmed addresses, especially overseas. If you have any questions about this, please contact us prior to bidding so we can review your options. If you have any complaints about this, please contact Paypal.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS: If the eBay auto-calculator is not responding, or if you think our shipping costs are too high, please contact us prior to bidding to determine your shipping options and costs. Repeat, prior to bidding, please. Because of Paypal's proof of delivery requirements, we can't always offer the cheapest forms of international shipping, but we might be willing to bend our rules on a case by case basis, so long as you agree that you have no recourse to file claims against either us or Paypal in the event of loss or damage in transit.
SALES TAX: Maine residents, please also include sales tax in the amount of 5.5 percent of the winning bid amount. This should calculate automatically at checkout, and the only way to avoid it is to send us a copy of your current Maine Resale Certificate. Upon receipt, we'll send you a customized invoice with the sales tax deleted.
FEEDBACK: Because of abuses we've experienced in the past, we have totally given up on the eBay feedback system, so we neither give nor expect feedback. Please, therefore, do not contact us after the auction asking us to leave feedback. If you ever have a problem with an item you purchase from us, please contact us directly about it before giving negative feedback or seller ratings, and especially before invoking eBay's dreaded Grand Tribunal in processes like "Return Requests" or "Opening an Item Not as Described Case." No one is perfect, and we occasionally mis-describe something, or an item arrives late or gets damaged in the mail, but we are always quick to respond to a problem and set it straight in the most mutually agreeable way.
