Texas Blues ORIG US LP EX 1968 Lightnin' Hopkins Smokey Hogg Blues classics BC16

Various

Texas blues: The early '50s

Original US LP released in 1968 on Blues Classics Records. Cat: BC16.

Over the next several months we have the pleasure of listing a spectacular vinyl collection of over 6000 LP's. This collection consisting of mostly Jazz but also Blues, Folk ,Rock, Soundtracks and Classical was kept in amazing condition. Most of the records were played once, transferred to tape for listening and then stored away in cliplock sealed bags in specially made cupboards. The overall condition of this collection is sublime to say the least and whatever items I list as Near Mint you can be assured that it was probaly only ever played once!! Over the last few weeks you may have noticed some of the lovely jazz & rock titles I have listed, these are just the tip of the iceberg here. I hope you enjoy seeing these listings as much as I have in offering them.

It's hard to imagine, going back some 50 years in time afterwards, the impact that a single LP might have on someone, but when it comes to the Blues Classics label founded by Arhoolie's Chris Strachwitz, as a way of "liberating" (as he once put it) the 78s in his rather extensive collection  that influence has literally been inestimable. At a time when other labels were almost exclusively issuing pre-war blues (with the exception, perhaps, of Mike Rowe's "pwb" label), Blues Classics bucked the existing trend by issuing a wide variety of material, up to and including postwar Blues and Gospel records from the 1940s and '50s.

Tracks: Smokey Hogg - Penitentiary blues/ Smokey Hogg - Penitentiary blues part 2/ Mercy Lee - Lonesome cabin blues/ Frankie Lee Sims - Lucy mae blues/ John Hogg - West Texas blues/ Black snake blues/ Frankie Lee Sims - I'm long, long gone/ Buddy Chiles - Mistreated blues/ Anonymous - Tom Moore's farm/ L.C. Williams - Trying, trying/ Texas Alexander - Crossroads/ L.C. Williams - Hole in the wall/ Lightning Hopkins - Late in the evening.

There are a few light spindle marks on labels. Record has some light scuff marks that cause a few light crackles throughout. Record is in Excellent condition. Cover has very light scuffing on right hand corners. Cover is in Near Mint condition.
