This handsome LP – a still-sealed copy – from Vanguard (VSD-71173, US pressing, label iteration unknown – likely later pressing*, stereo) entitled “The Art of Mischa Elman” features the legendary violin virtuoso in richly charismatic performances or violin encores.
He is accompanied throughout by his longtime recitall partner, the splendid Joseph Seiger.

All works were warmly recorded at Vanguard's 23rd St. Studio, New York City, during 4-10 October 1966.

The reverse side of the jacket carries this tribute from Vanguard founders Seymour and Maynard Solomon:
“We at Vanguard have been working with Mischa Elman as a recording artist for the past decade, during which time we valued not only his great artistry but our personal friendship as well. Vanguard is proud, if only in a small way, to have helped perpetuate the art of Elman for generations to come. We will mis him.”

This is playing from a bygone age, and all those who treasure the art of the violin will find much to savor here. The sound is first rate (based on my own copy).
There are informative liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The memorable cover photo of Elman was taken by Bill Fotiades, while the album design was executed by Jules Halfant.
*PLEASE NOTE:
This is a sealed copy. I will absolutely not accept a return based on the possibility that the buyer is disappointed the label was not what he/she would have preferred. Nor will I unseal the album to satisfy someone’s curiosity. Whatever the label, the attraction of this copy is that it is sealed and absolutely MINT, which alone makes it quite rare.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears virtually as new – an outstanding collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
