This lovely LP – a superb collector’s copy – from RCA (LM-2699, US pressing, red shaded dog label, mono, promo stamps on reverse side of jacket) entitled “The Art of Pablo Casals” features the great cellist in 12 early electrical recordings made with pianist Nikolai Mednikoff during the years 1926-1928 and sounding splendid here.

This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the piano will find much to admire here; moreover, the transfers are first rate.

The reverse side of the jacket reprints tributes to Casals by Wilhelm Furtwangler, Albert Schweitzer, Bruno Walter, Yehudi Menuhin, Ernest Ansermet, and Fritz Kreisler – all printed in English only. The memorable cover photo of Casals is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears almost as new – overall, an outstanding collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is enjoyable. Keep in mind that these are 1950s transfers of early electric 78 rpm recordings. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
