Description
Apple Records SO 383 Abbey Road The Beatles. Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by The Beatles released on October 26, 1969 on Apple Records. According to Author Bruce Spizer in his great books on Beatles record releases he tells us that the Abbey Road LP was packaged in three different covers. The LP OFFERED HERE is now known by most collectors as Spizer SC2A the First press, THIRD ISSUE COVER.
Abbey Road was the first Beatles album released in America with print-on-board covers as well (see Spizer SC1A, SC1B). Unlike the LP offered here ( with a paper "slick" cover), the process involved printing the cover image directly onto white pasteboard which is then folded and glued to form the jacket, the new print-on-board covers are a superior looking package. One advantage was that the covers were manufactured by one company, whereas the older inferior paper "slick" style covers used on all previous US Beatles albums involved both a printer and album fabricator. Capitol documents that on September 11, 1969 the artwork for Abbey Road was shipped to the printer.
The third cover version (SPIZER SC2A) OFFERED HERE is a THIRD BATCH (paper "slick) version cover which omits the song "Her Majesty" on the back cover track listing due to the fact that old cover art work was provided by Capitol Records to the east coast manufacture Queens Litho Co. who had held the contract for all previous Capitol LP covers.
Using the old artwork provided Queens Litho printed the paper "slick" style covers for the cardboard jacket which show an enlarged image of The Beatles omitting the square road sewer cover beneath Ringo and John's feet as a result. This first press, THIRD COVER paper ("slick") version cover LP OFFERED HERE is Factory Sealed in excellent condition, no seam wear, no splits, no torn shrink wrap......Simply BEATLEful! This FIRST press, (third issue cover) factory sealed Beatles Abbey Road LP is from our 50+ year collection.
