*The BEATLES* UK MONO - 1968 ================================================================
NO OFFERS PLEASE - AUCTION ONLY ================================================================ This comes with a high numbered, 'mono' cover (quite rare), so was most likely pressed sometime in early 1969.
Side 1 carries a -2 matrix ending and like most other Beatles original issues, the change from -1 is undetectable to the human ear and would have only been known to the sound engineers at the time. ================================================================
DISC ONE - Audio - VG Visual - VG- Matrix: Side1: XEX 709-2 Stamper code: - /GRL Matrix: Side2: XEX 710-1 Stamper code: 5/GML
DISC TWO - Audio - VG+ Visual - VG- Matrix: Side1: XEX 711-1 Stamper code: 3/GGO Matrix: Side2: XEX 712-1 Stamper code: 4/AO
I am offering this set because even though it is far from mint and the discs do show noticeable signs of play and handling, the sound quality is better than most examples out there, especially mono copies. Side 1 plays without any audible intrusions (pops, clicks, skips etc), which is almost impossible to find. Generally, both discs do display lines and marks, as well as dulling to the gloss itself, so if you are likely to be freaked out by the look of the vinyl this might not be for you. There is a little peak wear, mainly on the high-end vocals, but not enough to spoil the overall listening experience.
Side one: Plays without any intrusions. More frequently played, so some peak wear but still a brilliant sound. Side two: Clearer performance with just a few tiny 'pops'. 'Blackbird' plays with crystal clarity (quite unusual). Side three: Less frequently played, with a sound nearer to EX but does have a few random 'pops', so VG+. Side four: Very similar to side 3. Just a couple of 'ticks' on Revolution 9, which are almost drowned out by the noise of the track.
I have been cautious with my gradings, as I want you to be delighted with your purchase but from experience I know that it is very difficult to find a pair of 'mono' original discs that play this well. No skips or stalls and no loud or repetitive clicks. A good, solid performance throughout, with no nasty audible problems.
COVER - VG # 0620052 It is very hard to grade an original 'White' album cover as most are found in pretty dreadful condition. Overall, this one has survived in very good condition, displaying some creases but no damage. It has toned to a yellowish beige and the spine has some splitting to the laminate but the text is still just about legible. Someone has used the back and front to rest on while writing a note, so there is a faint impression of some writing but it is only visible against bright reflected light. The back panel is blank. Please bear in mind that any 'white' album cover always looks much whiter in photos than it actually is and this one is no exception, although it has toned better than most. The 4th photo is a fairly close example of its actual colour.
The single die-cut, original inners are creased but the seams are intact without any of the usually serious splitting found on most.
The lyrics poster is in excellent condition and is a genuine original.
The 4 photos are original but George does have some tape residue and a small tear at the top of his head.
The thin paper photo spacer is in great condition with age toning/spotting. It is not the full width of the photos (as above). In the 1960's records were loaded into their covers by hand. This was very time consuming, especially with a double L.P. To save time, boxes of photos were sent to retailers to load the covers at the point of sale. Each set of four was separated by a paper spacer which was meant to be discarded but some, like this one, were simply included with the set.
This is a fully loaded, original package with everything in reasonably good condition.
